Trainspotting

The rights to the screenplay:
If your planning to transform a novel into the movie, you'd have to get the screen rights.
John Hodge, Andrew MacDonald and Danny Boyle had a problem as the rights were already sold to Noel Gay.
Finance:
The three of them were badgered by Scott Rudin who offers the $250,000 to film whatever project they desire.
The deal was eventually done for 2% of the films budget (£30,000), and Noel Gay backing out of hands-on duties in exchange for a share of the profits and his name in the credits.

Pre-Production:
Can last from 4 to 7 weeks (Trainspotting's lasted for 7) and takes in casting, location scouting, working with the art department on the look of the film, for something as simple as colour, or the way something looks when it is shot- costumes.
Rehearsals begin in the second week of may in a rented flat at the top of the Glasgow tower block.
Trainspotting is filmed in Edinburgh but filmed mostly in Glasgow.

Casting:
Ewan McGregor, is earmarked for the Renton role from the start and is first on board.
Ewen Bremmer plays the part of spud
Bobby Carlyle who plays the part of Begbie
Gail Stevens and Andy Pryor have been casting directors for the film Shallow Grave, which they found some of these actors from.

  1. Good. Make sure you know these, and when you come to revise try to explain each of these elements in detail.
